Where Are They Now: Tess McIntyre Edition

Time for the next former employee feature. Each month we’re highlighting one of our fine cousins (what we call our employees) who has left us and moved on to a new place in their working life. Once a cousin, always a cousin.

Name: Tess McIntyre

IHB: Position at Iron Horse Brewery?

TM: While at IHB I was a server, event coordinator, community manager, and something else but I can’t remember. My cards read “Do-er of Stuff” and that pretty much sums it up.

IHB: You left out “loves talking to large crowds”.  Also, we’re still waiting for you to get the street team fully set up, Tess.

IHB: What is your favorite IHB beer?

TM: Bier de Garde (beer? How did we spell that?) was my first love and then Double Rainbow and then Iron Horse IPA. But now that I can’t get any of those so…. I’m team Finger Gun all the way.

IHB: uh..yeah, so, we’re gonna stop making that beer.

IHB: Where do you work now?

TM: Confluence Health in Wenatchee, WA

IHB: We don’t believe you. But if we did believe you, do you walk in every day, wave your arm and say “hell-o!”

IHB: What do you do at Confluence Health?

TM: I am the Marketing Specialist so I manage the intake of the marketing projects, work on special projects, and am the main point of contact for our vendors and outside contracts.

IHB: This isn’t LinkedIn; we don’t need that much detail..  Also, we’re sure you are good at all that, but do you get to create old-timey videos about knitting and beer. Yeah, we didn’t think so.

IHB: How are you doing better now that you’ve moved on from IHB?

TM: My office is perfectly temperature regulated as opposed to when I was at IHB and it was 4,000,000 degrees in the summer and -4,000,000 in the winter. An office with central heating & air really feels like I’ve made it to the top, guys.

IHB:  “suffering is the badge of all our tribe” – we thought  you were into Shakespeare.  We were just trying to keep it real for you.  Also, your answer feels like hyperbole.

IHB: Is there one thing that working at iron horse brewery helped you to get where you are now? Conversely, how did we ruin things for you?

TM: I wouldn’t be in marketing if Jared hadn’t plucked me from serving obscurity and brought me onto the marketing team (which at this point was just Jared). The best things about Iron Horse are the same things you ruined for me. It was pretty amazing to work in a place where people trusted you to try new things, innovate, have good ideas, have bad ideas, make mistakes, and to produce things that had no other purpose than to make people laugh and want to drink your beer. That coupled with a culture of direct communication, no BS, ask for what you want, work hard, and make sure you are having a ton of fun is rare. I’m ruined. So thanks guys. For everything and for nothing.

IHB: You’re welcome.  Also, we totally thought you were going to say sending bottles of beer to former tv sidekicks and then receiving a handwritten letter from Six of Blossom fame. Apparently, it wasn’t transformative for you.  These silly company culture things are pretty good too.

IHB: What is your favorite mythical creature?

TM: Elliot. That dragon from Pete’s Dragon

IHB: Tess! Do we even know you? Does Chauncy mean nothing to you?

IHB: What is your most memorable moment at IHB?

TM: Probably every IHB film club production and the Montana roll-out dance party.

IHB: Let’s just talk about Ross for a moment and how he has amazing dance eyes.

IHB: On a scale of 1 to 10.3 how much do you miss working at Iron Horse?

TM: I mean you want me to say 10.4 or 11–which makes me want to say something less than that, but I can’t. I miss that place. Thanks for the cousinhood.

IHB: You rolled with the punches,  helped Jared realize how ineffective he was, and established the framework for our current marketing department of 5. We’d say we miss you too, but those are emotions that cloud judgement;  so we won’t. Do come visit.
