Time for the next former employee feature where we highlight one of our fine cousins (what we call our employees) who has left us and moved on to a new place in their working life.
Name: Suzi Mirchel
Iron Horse Brewery: What was your position when you worked at IHB?
Suzi Mirchel: I was a trivia host and worked at Iron Horse Coffee stand (may it rest in peace). I would also pour IHB events on the westside.
IHB: We’re pretty sure you had, like, 18 other jobs as well.
IHB: What years did you work at IHB?
SM: 2013 – 2014ish (I still think I’m an employee, just in a spiritual sense instead of a physical, gets-paid sense)
IHB: Yes, you’re correct.
IHB: What is your favorite IHB beer?
SM: High Five Hefe was held my heart for a long time but Beer Wolf is just sooooo good.
IHB: Ummm, you must have missed the memo. We got rid of Beer Wolf, just like that sarcastic a$$hole, Chauncy and replaced it with another brand called Hand Cannon, which also will go away at some point, because, you know, boredom.
IHB: Where do you work now?
SM: I work for Street League Skateboarding and ETN Media down is LA. We are the world’s first professional street skateboarding league and first all skateboarding OTT network.
IHB: Do you have 11 or 19 flat bill trucker caps?
IHB: What do you do at Street League Skateboarding and ETN Media?
SM: Currently, I am a Business Development Coordinator. Which is a fancy title for materials jockey. I customize presentations and create mockups to help our VPs and Sales team sell sponsorships for both the network and the league.
IHB: So, you are the person that gets the actual “thing” done. That’s pretty valuable. You are good enough, smart enough, and people like you.
IHB: How are you doing better now that you’ve moved on from IHB?
SM: How am I doing better…that’s a loaded question. I’m definitely more secure in my abilities and know exactly what I have to offer the world now, but all of that came with time and making mistakes.
IHB: Time and Failure are our two favorite things.
IHB: Is there one thing that working at Iron Horse Brewery helped you to get where you are now? Conversely, how did we ruin things for you?
SM: Working at IHB taught me what to look for in a quality company. I genuinely loved the family and the community that the Iron Horse team creates for employees and those ideals are something that I’ve looked for in every company since. Additionally, that being said Iron Horse ruined me in the sense that I constantly daydream about moving back to Ellensburg and working for IHB again. So thanks guys…you’re all the worst for being the best.
IHB: Some might say we are a cult, but we’re glad you used the publicly acceptable words like community and family. FYI, Ellensburg doesn’t have a place to surf, although we could probably set up a wave machine at People’s Pond.
IHB: What is your favorite mythical creature?
SM: That’s easy- a guy who will marry me JK a unicorn…alright, so those are basically the same thing.
IHB: Marriage is an antiquated societal construct designed to suppress individualism. Never give in, or if you do, a unicorn that puts the seat down is probably a good bet. You should have said Horse, though. We’re not Iron Unicorn Brewery, Suzi.
IHB: What is your most memorable moment at IHB?
SM: Probably my first night hosting trivia. It was my 23rd birthday and it was at the Frontier. Mind you, the Frontier had NOT been renovated and I’m fairly sure that night was the first time I had ever even set foot in that place because it was for old timers and locals. So naturally I’m nervous and of course, my friends show up with a red bro tank painted up like a Michael Jordan Bulls jersey with my last name on the back (ya know…’23’) and demanded that I wear it so I did. I recall everything going well but I was so sweaty and hot from nerves that I drank like 5 beers and then some shots then ultimately slept on my bathroom floor. Overall, my favorite half memory.
IHB: If we recall, you looked even more nervous than you just described. We’re thankful you killed it, though.
IHB: On a scale of 1 to 10.3 how much do you miss working at Iron Horse?
SM: 10.5 (I still regularly email/ message Jared to see if he’ll give me a job).
IHB: We’re betting there is a 95% chance that Jared hasn’t responded. Don’t take it personally, he only opens email from people who didn’t quit Iron Horse Brewery in pursuit of other things.
